Seeing the Sun for the First Time

Kassy and I read a short story called "All Summer in a Day". It's a story about people on Venus who never see the Sun, and on a specific day the scientists predict that the Sun will come out. So this is a paragraph about me experiencing the first time seeing the Sun.

Deep down my crushed, blackened heart, there was nothing no brightness. No smiles, laughter, and music were ever heard. Everyday huge droplets splatters one after another, it never stops, it’s continuous, again, and again. But today I feel hope spread in the city, today was the day when it’s been told sunshine, the big sun is finally shining on Venus. Furious raindrops fall as we wait upon the sun, the forest is full of darkness, and loneliness. We wait, and we wait, suddenly drops of angry rain came smaller, and smaller, slowly nothing was poured onto the long, endless road. We tilt our tiny little heads up towards the sky, the sun it shines toward me. I felt a burst of energy, it pushes itself shaking the black clouds away, and there stood our powerful, energetic sun.

Everywhere in the city is filled with the brightness, I felt overjoyed, my heart now thumping with life and happiness. I burst into the woods, trees opening for a gasp of sunshine, one after another the trees are filled with colorful leaves that we’ve never seen. The lifeless city in just a second turned into a city that’s shined like bright diamonds. Kids run down the street holding hands sending out laughters and joy. Big smiles were all over the city, and music were heard at a faint distant, then louder and louder the wind blows everything around the city. I see myself looking up and droplets of water filled my eyes, and I smiled for the very first time of my life.

  1. Selina,

I am absolutely in love with your vivid storytelling. You paint some beautiful images with your descriptions, and it is as if I am right there with you, about to experience the sun for the first time in my life. I especially liked your choice of adjectives and your last sentence. In fact, I could not imagine a better way to end this post!

Amazing work!! I am so proud of you!
